Early Belgian vote results show separatist gains

BRUSSELS (AP) ? Early results from Belgian municipal elections Sunday showed widespread gains for a separatist party that is seeking autonomy for the wealthy Dutch-speaking region of northern Flanders.

Bart De Wever of the NV-A party wants to become mayor of Antwerp and use the second biggest port city in Europe as a base for a bigger challenge for Flemish separatism during national elections in 2014.

De Wever has been at odds with Belgium's economically ailing French-speaking Wallonia for years, saying he is fighting over the fate of the 6 million Flemings in the kingdom of 11 million.

With 20 percent of the vote counted, De Wever was leading Antwerp's incumbent Socialist mayor Patrick Janssens 38 percent to 28 percent.

De Wever has made it no secret he is looking for national impact during the municipal elections. He has criticized French-speaking socialist Prime Minister Elio Di Rupo over tax policies he says tap too much money from Flanders.

In municipal elections six years ago, the NV-A was a nascent party with few votes across northern Flanders, but by 2010 national elections it had become the biggest party in the region.

De Wever was the main reason that Belgium had the longest period without a government on record ? at 541 days ? because he sought extensive concessions for Flemish autonomy.

He failed and ended up in opposition against Di Rupo, a staunch defender of the Belgian nation-state.

While De Wever's NV-A surged on Sunday, the extremist anti-foreigner Flemish Interest party crashed.

"We saw our voters flee to the NV-A," said Flemish Interest lawmaker Gerolf Annemans.

Moves toward separatism in the European Union have been getting a bigger stage during the continent's economic crisis. Spain's Catalonia is grousing that it has to pay for others in its crisis-hit country, and Scotland is seeking a referendum on breaking away from the United Kingdom.

(AP) ? President Barack Obama is hailing the rebound of the U.S. auto industry, pointing to progress since his administration rescued General Motors and Chrysler.

Obama says in his weekly radio and Internet address that auto sales are the highest they've been in more than four years and the industry has created nearly a quarter of a million new jobs.

Automakers are large employers in Ohio, one of the pivotal states in the race between Obama and Republican Mitt Romney.

Markwayne Mullin, an Oklahoma Republican running for Congress, says in the GOP address that the Obama administration has pushed regulations that make it difficult for businesses.

He says the economy "doesn't need more meddling ? it needs more certainty."

You are here: Home / Restaurant Reviews / Exploring The Five Main Factors That Play A Role In Determining The Cost Of Chef Jackets

chef jackets

If you check out the selling prices of chef jackets nowadays, you will notice how much they vary. You may find a chef jacket that is cheaper by ten times than another type or brand of chef jacket. In one store alone, two types of chef jackets may be sold, but if the other one is on sale, you can buy them at different prices. And this state of affairs brings up several interesting questions: one of them being, naturally, the one as to what brings about the chef jacket cost disparities. That is the question we will be answering, as we explore the five main factors that influence the cost of these jackets.

First, in costing the chef jacket, you would have to take into consideration the material or fabric used. Since kitchen hygiene is at stake here and the wearer would be exposed to food, the choice of material for the chef jackets manufacture should be done with care. But it is not an all-imposing restriction or limitation. The manufacturers could still, within bounds, practice some leeway. High-quality fabrics would make for high-quality chef jackets, which would then translate to more expensive chef jackets.

The size of the chef jacket would also figure into the determination of its price. This is where the super-sized jackets are sold at higher prices than the smaller jackets. But it is also possible that you will find larger chef jackets selling for practically the same price as smaller ones. There are a number of sellers who do that.

The design would be the third determinant. It is more expensive if there is more attention to detail, or the design is more intricate or elaborate. In terms of color, all these jackets are supposed to plain white. However, subject to certain limitations, manufacturers are allowed to put their own stamp of design on them. If a chef jacket has a more intricate design, it will usually cost more than those with plain or simple designs.

The next consideration in determining the price of chef jackets is their manner of procurement. It could be that purchasing the jackets online would cost less than if it was purchased directly from the shop of a local tailor. Similarly, an hotelier who opts to buy a ready made chef jacket may pay less than one who orders for one to be custom-made.

The last cost determining factor would be the number of units purchased. Buying in bulk would give you the advantage of lower unit cost of the chef jacket than if you buy only one or two. Of course you?d have a higher total cost if you buy in bulk. But further analysis would show that you will still be able to save money since you?d pay a lower cost per jacket. This is due to the so-called economies of scale. Also, if you buy in bulk, sellers are more easily convinced to give discounts.

Tesla gets $10 million grant from California to help with Model X production

Tesla gets $10 million grant from California to help with Model X production

Tesla's outspoken CEO, Elon Musk, said last week that he expects his company's financials to be somewhat satisfactory in the very near future, but that's not to say a $10 million grant wouldn't be welcomed with open arms. Thanks to the California Energy Commission, Tesla will have some extra cash to work with during the production phase of its upcoming electric SUV, otherwise more formally known as the Model X. According to Forbes, Tesla will match California's gesture with $50 million of its own -- the total, naturally, will be used to ramp up production at its Fremont plant and to snag the necessary machinery and components to build that sleek Model X. There's still a good amount of time before this EV hits the masses, so it looks like watching those select demos will have to suffice for now.
